THE SCIENCE BEHIND FIREFLY — BORN AT NASA

The story of Firefly begins with Maurice Bales, a scientist and inventor who spent the 1970s at NASA designing spectrometer equipment to evaluate the thermal tiles of the Space Shuttle. From there, Maurice went on to invent the world's first all-digital infrared camera in 1979, and by 1998 had created the first FDA-approved photobiomodulation device: the Bales Photonic Stimulator.

His son, Dr. Martin Bales, L.Ac., DAOM, grew up immersed in this world of photonics and precision engineering. After graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Martin took an unexpected turn — earning a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. What emerged from fusing these two disciplines was something entirely new.

Martin founded Bales Photonics, Inc., with a singular vision: to make the most powerful, multi-spectral light therapy available not just in clinical settings, but in everyday life. Firefly is the result.

POWERFUL LIGHTWAVES

Unlike standard PBM devices, Firefly delivers targeted blue, red, and near-infrared
(NIR) light with a depth and power that approaches the penetration of Class 4 lasers —
without the associated risk, heat, or tissue stress. Its near-infrared wavelengths can
reach up to 8 inches (22cm) into the body, allowing light and frequency to influence
deep tissues, circulation, cellular metabolism, and neurological pathways that
conventional light devices cannot access.

The Firefly system is a next-generation therapeutic technology that combines high-
intensity, multi-spectrum photobiomodulation (PBM) with photon-delivered frequency modulation.

At its core, Firefly uses light not only for biological stimulation, but also to deliver
structured frequency signals to the body. Blue, red, and near-infrared wavelengths are

Each Firefly wand contains 25 high-intensity LED elements engineered to emit 8
distinct wavelengths across the blue, red, and near-infrared spectrum. Multiple LEDs
are dedicated to each wavelength, allowing Firefly to deliver significantly higher photon
density than standard light therapy devices. This combination of wavelength diversity
and concentrated output enables light to interact with both surface and deep tissues
